2 Veneti
Situated on the corner of Harley Street, 2 Veneti opened its doors three years ago and has been a favourite with local doctors and divas ever since. As the name suggests, this cosy eatery is owned by two Venetians who are passionate about authentic flavours and happy to guide diners through the menu. Inside, the restaurant’s exposed brickwork, light wood and warm lighting create the perfect setting for long lunches and relaxed dinners with friends. Head Chef Luca Conti serves up some excellent pastas and risottos, as well as unique Venetian specialities like fritto misto (battered fried fish and shellfish) and spaghetti with duck and porcini ragout. Alloro
Alloro restaurant is a popular yet intimate and understated Italian restaurant on Dover Street, in the heart of London’s Mayfair. It is always buzzing with a sophisticated international crowd. Meaning ‘bay leaf’ in Italian, Alloro serves up a menu of delicious and simple traditional Italian cuisine with a modern twist, and all dishes are prepared using seasonal produce. The fresh bread, made on the premises, is worth the visit alone. Recommended choices include the homemade pasta filled with pheasant served in its own sauce; and the artisanal and authentic Gragnana spaghetti with fresh lobster, garlic and sweet chilli sauce. Special menus for seasonal truffles and porcini are a real treat, and the dining room frequently overflows into Alloro’s own stylish bar – Il Baretto – a favourite meeting place in this part of town. There’s an excellent, mostly Italian, wine list. One regular claims, ‘Alloro never disappoints.’

Arcadia Restaurant
Down a pedestrian walkway just off the high street in the heart of Kensington, Arcadia is a funky, charming, slightly eccentric and very popular local favourite, serving modern European cuisine to the great good of Northcliffe House and Pukka locals. The muralled walls, squawking parrots, golden retrievers, and singing macaws make up the funky, eccentric bit, but it's the great food and excellent service that make Arcadia so popular. Start with the chorizo sring roll, followed by the lemon sole with chips, when it's on, or the grilled chump chop of lamb a la nicoise. The Sunday brunch has its fans, and outside seating is a hit when the sun is with us.

Avista
Mayfair meets Madison Avenue is how we'd describe the dining room at Avista, situated on Grosvenor Square in central London. A moneyed melange of media moguls and well-coiffed socialites have claimed this brand new fine dining institution as their gastronomic stomping ground, and head chef Michele Granziera – formerly of Zafferano – has delighted London's food lovers with his sexy rustic Italian menu. With exposed brick walls, a natural beige and cream colour scheme and an abundance of fresh flowers, Avista is suitable for business meetings and discreet liaisons of the dangereux kind, and signature dishes include the Sicilian prawns with fresh oregano, and the Fiorentina steak with bone marrow and balsamic.

Biagio Chez Victor
If you’ve ever seen yourself as a bit of a legend stage, screen, charts or canvas you’ll be in good company at Wardour Street’s Chez Victor. Previously frequented by Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, Ringo Starr and Brian Epstein, Rex Harrison, Vivien Leigh and Robert Redford if the walls could talk here they’d be namedropping with the best of them. In 2005 Biagio took the brave decision to update the historic institution and the gamble has paid off – Chez Victor is now a stunningly contemporary space still with oodles of atmosphere and style by the bucketload. A Mediterranean menu influenced by French and Italian cooking is classic yet fashionable.
