Al Sultan
Just off Shepherd's Market, Al Sultan is a small, beautifully run Lebanese that has attracted couples and families for absolute yonks. The Middle Eastern restaurant traditions, white linen, flowers, mirrors and snappy service are all in evidence here, but even if Al Sultan weren't quite so inviting the food would still win a loyal following. Our absolute favourite thing to do is bring half a dozen friends and order every starter we can lay our hands on. Let the feast begin. Hummus shawarma with lamb and pine nuts is great, so are the falafel, and kallaje, the kibbeh, and fattouch and the moutabal, but those who know say the tabouleh is truly great. The wine list is an absolute winner, too.

Al Waha
For those who don’t know, Al Waha translates simply as ‘oasis’. And that’s exactly what this fine Middle Eastern restaurant is to many Londoners who return time and time again to sample the welcoming atmosphere and tempting mezze style food. Situated on Westbourne Grove in ever-trendy Notting Hill, Al Waha is unassumingly simple in décor, remaining classic in simple white and earth tones while other restaurants around it succumb to passing fads. Art works reflect the establishment’s Eastern background while abundant greenery surrounds the always busy tables. Pick a selection of dishes from the comprehensive Lebanese menu to share with your fellow guests or (if you’re feeling selfish) to enjoy all to yourself. Particularly recommended are the delicious kebabs straight from the chargrill.

Fairuz
FFairuz restaurant in London’s Marylebone is named in tribute to Lebanon's most famous chanteuse and cultural icon - a sweet, unguarded idea that, if copied, could lead to Bob Dylan the chippie or Cliff Richard the burger bar. Fairuz the restaurant is one of London's more relaxed and intimate Lebanese restaurants, with comfortable, rustic décor and a warm welcome. Fairuz still observes all the traditions: formal service, the instant appearance of olives and chilled salad upon arrival. But the décor, cooking, and staff are all pleasantly flamboyant and at Fairuz there's a general bonhomie among the staff and clientele. The Lebanese cuisine bursts with Eastern Mediterranean flavours - old favourites like tabouleh, foul moukaaka, and moutabaal do new dance steps on your tongue. The raw meat starters are unmissable. Good vegetarian selection, of course, and there is complimentary fruit and baklava with coffee.

Fakhreldine
A fabulous fixture on the London dining scene for many years, Piccadilly’s Fakhreldine restaurant is as current now as the day it opened. A sleek and contemporary Lebanese restaurant with stunning views over Green Park, Fakhreldine is totally unique in its design and menu alike. Inspired by traditional Arabic design, the restaurant’s interior is richly coloured, decadently furnished and extremely comfortable, appealing to London’s fashion crowd and even visiting royalty. Fakhreldine’s formal dining room, separate from the relaxed 85 Bar and Lounge, is the place to enjoy the fine Lebanese cuisine of Youssef Harb who brings the flavours of the Middle East to the UK using fresh, flavoursome ingredients with a focus on authenticity. Whether you’re planning a formal meal out with all the trimmings, want to linger over shared plates of mezze with friends, or wish to entertain business associates in-style, Fakhreldine suits every occasion.

Fontana Restaurant
A genuinely beautiful restaurant of hand-painted murals, exotic paintings, plants and elegant upholstered seating. Each area has its own character, from a large inviting Moroccan banquette, to an intimate velvet-draped ‘tent’. Cooking is traditional, so expect hot and cold mezze, chicken and lamb shawarma (a dish of sliced spot-roasted meat popular throughout the Middle East), as well as classic Moroccan dishes. If you really want to do the Lebanese thing, order the fried red mullet served with fried bread and a sesame sauce. Dish of the day might be courgette stuffed with minced lamb and rice.
