5th View Champagne and Seafood Bar
The views alone are worth the visit to 5th View – the surprising hidden gem of a restaurant on the fifth floor of Piccadilly’s branch of Waterstones. Sweeping across London towards Big Ben, its an outlook which any restauranteur would give sell his soul for. But rather than rest purely on their windows, 5th View have created an indulgent seafood and Champagne bar with a decadent feel and excellent food. Sumptuous and comfortable with a gentlemans-club-meets-boudoir-meets-country-mansion look, 5th View combines tactile furnishings with classic design and a buzzing atmosphere. Adam's Café
Run by Abdel and Frances Boukraa – he hailing from Djerba, Tunisia, she English born and bred – Adam’s Café is a thriving family affair which has grown over the years to become one of Shepherds Bush’s most popular restaurants. A café by day and a restaurant serving North African cuisine by night, Adam’s Café is a bustling local hub, informal and authentic, decorated in mosaics and cheerful colours. It may serve the biggest and best breakfast on Askew Road but this is no greasy spoon. Visit in the evening and find yourself greeted by the spice infused aromas of Tunisia and Morocco. The menu consists simply of couscous dishes alongside grills and tagines, each based precisely on Abdel’s experience of home cooking. You really won’t find a more authentic taste of North Africa in the capital.

Al Sultan
Just off Shepherd's Market, Al Sultan is a small, beautifully run Lebanese that has attracted couples and families for absolute yonks. The Middle Eastern restaurant traditions, white linen, flowers, mirrors and snappy service are all in evidence here, but even if Al Sultan weren't quite so inviting the food would still win a loyal following. Our absolute favourite thing to do is bring half a dozen friends and order every starter we can lay our hands on. Let the feast begin. Hummus shawarma with lamb and pine nuts is great, so are the falafel, and kallaje, the kibbeh, and fattouch and the moutabal, but those who know say the tabouleh is truly great. The wine list is an absolute winner, too.

Al Waha
For those who don’t know, Al Waha translates simply as ‘oasis’. And that’s exactly what this fine Middle Eastern restaurant is to many Londoners who return time and time again to sample the welcoming atmosphere and tempting mezze style food. Situated on Westbourne Grove in ever-trendy Notting Hill, Al Waha is unassumingly simple in décor, remaining classic in simple white and earth tones while other restaurants around it succumb to passing fads. Art works reflect the establishment’s Eastern background while abundant greenery surrounds the always busy tables. Pick a selection of dishes from the comprehensive Lebanese menu to share with your fellow guests or (if you’re feeling selfish) to enjoy all to yourself. Particularly recommended are the delicious kebabs straight from the chargrill.

Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester
toptable Dining Awards 2010 - Runner-up: Over £45 and Celebrity Chef Restaurant. The three Michelin-starred Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester restaurant in London’s Mayfair, traditionally the smartest address in town, represents a new approach to fine dining. Professionalism and attention to detail are always paramount, but there is a new aura of whimsy and pleasure as well. Alain Ducasse’s spectacular, elegant interior - by Patrick Jouin - and breathtaking dining experience has enchanted London’s gourmets and critics. For most mortals, a meal at Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester is occasion dining for special celebrations, and the sublime quality of the food and the easy pomp of the service live up to expectations. But an ideal and affordable way to sample the contemporary French cuisine is the set lunch menu, highlighting the very highest quality seasonal ingredients. Favourite dishes include langoustine ravioli with shellfish in a ginger-lemongrass and smoked tea consommé, heart of black Angus rump steak studded with bacon, boulangère potatoes, and chocolate-coffee pleasure
