Seymours
Pass beneath the awning of The Leonard Hotel’s Georgian front door, turn left and you’ll find yourself in Seymours - a thick-carpeted room full of paintings, upholstered armchairs, sofas and an open fireplace. The feel is decidedly English country house, and Seymours menu matches perfectly with a smattering of English favourites on offer, rounded out the small, but perfectly formed menu with a few old school European classics for good measure. Start with succulent king prawns pan fried with garlic and white wine sauce, or a refreshingly light pumpkin ginger soup. For mains, we love the comforting retro offerings of Steak Diane, fish chips and bangers mash.

The Lounge at the impressive InterContinental London Park Lane is the perfect place for afternoon tea in elegant surroundings. There’s a wide range of fine teas and infusions to crook your little finger over, provided by the Tea Palace. Black, green, white or herbal, you’ll find something to refresh and restore you while you tuck into the goodies that are offered alongside – including award-winning fresh chocolates from Melt of Notting Hill. If you haven’t been invited to tea in nearby Buck House, The Lounge the next best thing.

The Only Running Footman
The newly brushed-up and re-launched Only Running Footman in Mayfair definitely hasn’t lost any of its British roots in the process. This much-loved pub, restaurant and private event space houses elegant, yet unpretentious surroundings, complete with a truly British menu featuring home-grown produce direct from the farmers. Guests can slide up to the long mahogany bar or comfy booth seating and enjoy traditional Blighty breakfasts or old-style pub menu favourites later on. The restaurant is a bit plusher, serving stylish items like south coast fish soup with saffron and rouille and a Running Footman traditional mixed grill against a backdrop of gold velvet chairs and carpeting. For those who feel that the wine bar set have lost sight of what made Britain great, The Only Running Footman is definitely for you.

The Running Horse
This hidden gem in the heart of Mayfair is a cosy, traditional gastropub catering to a posh yet unpretentious crowd. The Running Horse dates back to 1738, making it the oldest pub in Mayfair, and the whitewashed exterior and friendly atmosphere make it a super spot for after work cocktails, post-shopping pints, tables for two and Sunday lunches with friends. The Running Horse restaurant is located on the first floor, and the familiar English menu features old favourites and modern classics alongside each other. We love the roast leg of lamb served with purple sprouting broccoli, glazed carrots, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes, and the poached smoked haddock with crushed Ratte potatoes, crème fraiche and a poached egg.
