The Belle Vue
The simple charms of The Belle Vue have made it a bit of a Clapham institution in recent years. Not only somewhere for commuters to pop in for a pint on their way through (The Belle Vue is conveniently close to Clapham Common tube), it’s also a spot where locals enjoy the calm atmosphere of a restaurant along with the home style comforts of a favourite pub. As the lights are dimmed diners find themselves ensconced in a cosy setting where faded gilt mirrors, button backed banquettes and chunky scrubbed wooden tables provide a modern take on old Victorian pub décor. The pared down styling continues on a traditional menu which changes to suit the seasons but will more often than not offer favourites such as fish and chips, honey roast ham with fried egg and delicious chargrilled steaks.

The Goring Dining Room
The last hotel to be opened during the reign of Edward VII, The Goring – just minutes from Buckingham Palace – is the perfect setting for a meal fit for a King. Lavishly regal from decorative ceiling and Swarovski crystal chandeliers (lowered in the evening to create a more intimate atmosphere) to gleamingly spotless Arthur Price cutlery, the Dining Room brings Edwardian style in to the twenty first century. Expectations are more than adequately filled by a menu which could have been inspired by a Royal hunting trip out in Britain’s most beautiful fields. Grouse, duck, Scottish Salmon and even that old favourite, steak and kidney pie, feature while often forgotten delicacies-past, jellied eel or roast marrow bone, make a surprisingly welcome comeback too.

The Star Tavern
CAMRA award winner, The Star Tavern is a shining example of all that is good about London’s pubs. Set in the heart of Belgravia, a stones throw from Belgrave Square and Sloane Street, The Star’s simple pub exterior – hanging baskets, glossy paint and gold lettering – belies the chicness you’ll find inside. Traditional but with a modern edge, The Star Tavern makes the suits from nearby embassy offices feel at home with a Victoriana vibe, however the over the top chandeliers and bold use of colour nods to a modern design ethic. Well kept Fullers ales are served at the bar along with your usual pub tipples while on menu the chef mixes English tradition with international flavour to great effect in dishes such as salmon fishcakes with spiced savoy cabbage and sweet chilli and tomato sauce.
