Amaya
Amaya restaurant, the India Grill and Bar, is tucked away in one of London’s smartest addresses on the border of Knightsbridge and Belgravia. This award-winning restaurant is something new from the team behind super-successful Chutney Mary. Rosewood, vibrant red panels, jewel-painted tiles, Agra red sandstone, and smart Italian chairs make for a seriously stylish space peopled by a very well-groomed and well-dressed crowd, where three types of Indian grilling take place in the theatrically open kitchen. Dishes are meant for sharing. Concentrate on grilled dishes like lamb chops, lobster, tandoori chicken, fish kebabs, sweet potato. If you’re still peckish, follow with a curry or biryani. Tasting menu, express lunch menu, and 400-calorie lunch are each tempting in their own ways.

Basil and Mint
Basil and Mint may seem an unusual combination, yet at this Fulham restaurant the choice of rarely combined herbs is a reflection of a very successfully executed fusion. Moments from the riverbank, Basil and Mint has tapped in to Britain’s tastebuds with a combination of Indian and Italian food throughout an extensive menu, a who’s who of our favourite dine-out dishes. Attractively decorated with designer wall coverings, large mirrors and fanned napkins, Basil and Mint offers an upmarket atmosphere complete with the friendly, obliging service that sets both Italian and Indian apart. In fact, in combining Indian and Italian dishes, Basil and Mint has not only created a menu to be reckoned with, but a winning new style of restaurant.

Clapham Tandoori
Located on the south side of Clapham Common, Clapham Tandoori has been serving up traditional Indian cuisine to south Londoners for 40 years, and they're not showing any signs of slowing down. They attribute their success to a combination of traditional Indian food, modern décor and their award winning chef. The food, too, is highly acclaimed – several of their signature dishes, including the chicken hariali (chicken breast in ginger, garlic, coriander, lemongrass and Madras sauce), raan mussallam (roasted marinated leg of lamb with an onion and tomato gravy), and chicken xakuti (a spicy south Indian style chicken curry with freshly ground coconut), have won House of Commons awards. The décor is clean and modern – expect lots of bright colours, uncluttered surfaces and glass and, as an added bonus, non-stop Bollywood films playing on wall-mounted TVs add to the buzzing ambience - and service is friendly and accommodating.

Curry Leaf
Located on St John's Hill in Clapham Junction, the Curry Leaf is a warm and cosy Indian restaurant perfect for mid-week nights out and catch-ups with friends. With a chef from Brick Lane who is renowned for his homestyle cooking, and a candlelit dining room decorated with flowers and dark ruby red walls, the Curry Leaf is always filled with regulars and the restaurant has become the favourite haunt of local curry lovers and posh foodies alike. We love the Sag Gosth – a lamb and spinach curry; the Chicken Tikka Korai cooked in a creamy sauce with garlic and onions; and the Prawn Pathia in a hot and spicy lemon and tomato sauce.

Haandi
Haandi is named after the narrow-necked cooking pots that lock in the memorable flavours of this Northern Indian cuisine. Some dishes are served in mini haandis, but the main thing is not how the food comes but how good it is. Decorated in elegant neutral golds and creams you can enter from Brompton Rd where the private dining area is or at the rear, Cheval place where you’ll find the bar - The glass fronted kitchen adds drama, allowing you to watch the chefs create their own brand of magic. Popular dishes include the heera panna, sauteed calamari and monkfish, giant prawns grilled in the Tandoor. Haandi produces truly authentic Indian food aimed at a clientele that knows its raitas from its rotis.
