Bombay Flame
If you're looking to move beyond your local curry house, northwest London's Bombay Flame restaurant offers a more sophisticated alternative for Indian cuisine. The restaurant, located between Kilburn's bustling high road and West Hampstead's restaurant lined West End Lane, is the perfect place to sample more refined and adventurous Indian dishes, starting with their signature dish: Goan wali machli, a southern Indian fish curry with coconut, fresh spices, peppers and coriander. Bombay Flame opened in 2007, and boasts a chef with over 20 years of experience cooking regional specialities from all over India. The décor is simple and contemporary and echoes the orange and reds of the Bombay Flame logo, hinting at the fact that yes, chilli and spices are their thing! Don't fret if you're not a chilli fiend though, as the menu offers plenty of tasty mild options, including the ever popular masala and pasanda dishes.

Bombay Nights
Coming to London from way out West is Bombay Nights, the Hampstead branch of a popular West Country mini-chain. With restaurants in Bristol and Bath it was only a matter of time before the capital got in on the act. And surprisingly Bombay Nights is already making its mark in a City packed with Indian restaurants. How? By combining unpretentious but stylish interiors using simple brown leather and white tablecloths with warm red walls with good, honest food. With a strong vegetarian menu which doesn’t compromise on flavour, plus beautifully spiced regional meat, fish and seafood dishes this is truly a restaurant which takes Indian dining to the next level.

Cinnamon Spice
Cinnamon Spice is an absolute must for those of you who love Indian cuisine in all its richness and diversity and don't feel it has to be served in a peeling shopfront in order to be authentic. Cinnamon Spice is a lovely space with room for you and all your mates - modern and trendy and full of life. You could make this a stop for a romantic evening or for a celebration meal and both would fit just fine. The food reflects a delicate blending of contrasting flavours. We particularly like the murgk (chicken) in cinnamon sauce and the highly-flavoured lamb moslini, although someone we know is working his way through the seafood dishes and hasn't been let down yet. There are many vegetarian choices and we recommend the simple fresh mango for the perfect dessert. When booking this restaurant no other offers apply.

ERIKI
Now and again you'll chance upon a cracker of a restaurant. In offering that holy trinity rarely found in Indian restaurants - excellent service, delicious dishes and a good atmosphere - ERIKI's one of them. You'll find it in swanky Swiss Cottage, close to the tree-lined neighbourhoods of Hampstead and St John's Wood. Spicy by nature and by look, ERIKI's decor is a sophisticated fusion of traditional imported Indian furniture and contemporary western finishes aka brightly coloured walls and gleaming white plates. Above all else, what marks this Indian out is the food. An impressive range of skillfully prepared dishes means that vegetarians and non-vegetarians are spoilt for choice. If you're after signature dishes, opt for murgh xacuti, a rich chicken curry with individually roasted ground spices from Goa, koh e rogan josh - a classic kashmiri lamb curry, or from the a la carte menu, sea fresh sea bass fillets marinated with peri peri spices and served in a sizzling hot masala sauce. You could even go the whole hog and try a special Indian cocktail.
