Artigiano
Think contemporary Italian style, think Artigiano. This rather fabulous restaurant fits right in chi chi Belsize Park thanks to its gorgeous design-led interior which gleams with clean white and chrome and is filled with light thanks to an atrium-style glass ceiling and high concept lighting system. A glass frontage folds back to allow for summertime al fresco dining while even in the colder months Artigiano seems somehow as sunny and warm as a June afternoon on the Lido. A confident modern Italian menu sees old favourites given new life with the use of imaginative ingredients and presentation which complements the restaurants classic meets fashionable Milan-worthy look.

Caponata Ristorante, Osteria & Bar
At first glance Camden’s Caponata may appear to be your usual Italian café-bar. But on closer inspection there’s certainly nothing ‘usual’ about this place at all. Split in to two distinct areas, Caponata offers something for everyone, from a quick snack at lunchtime to a romantic three course supper, an after work drink or a long Sunday dinner. Downstairs a casual Osteria with breezy atmosphere and rustic homecooked food spills out in to a gorgeous courtyard with living garden wall. On certain evenings a partition slides away to reveal the stage of live music venue The Forge providing entertainment along with dinner and drinks. Upstairs, overlooking the courtyard the Caponata Ristorante is a much more intimate and sophisticated proposition. Serving refined versions of Sicilian favourites up here you’ll find yourself a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of Camden.

Hidden Treasure
Hidden Treasure is a traditional southern Italian restaurant on northwest London's West End Lane. The interior is designed to remind the diner of a Mediterranean fishing village, and features an eclectic mix of design elements: the walls are painted with zebra stripes, each table is unique and the room is dominated by a crystal chandelier. All of this comes together to create a relaxing and intimate atmosphere, whether customers choose to dine indoors or al fresco in the leafy garden. The food is authentically southern Italian; starters are almost exclusively seafood based, with a good selection of antipasti platters, there are a range of meat, seafood and pasta mains, and desserts include traditional Italian favourites like tiramisu, panna cotta, tartufo nero and bianco and torta della nonna. Although Hidden Treasure is relatively new to the West End Lane dining scene, it's definitely managed to make it's mark amongst the myriad other eating establishments in the area – diners soon become regulars, returning for the friendly service and delicious food.

La Collina
Every food lover dreams of discovering the perfect local Italian restaurant. It has to be discreet, tucked-away and modest inside, the chef must be Italian, and the fragrant, homely dishes such as braised rabbit with artichoke hearts must be served in generous portions. Well look no further London Italianophiles – La Collina is an unpretentious outfit in Primrose Hill which has already won the hearts of in-the-know gourmands. The unfussy restaurant is spread over a ground floor, a rear garden and a basement dining room, and chef Roberto Bulllio’s menu includes highlights such as the roasted quail stuffed with fennel-flavoured luganega pork sausage served with wild mushrooms, wilted spinach and mash.

Pasta Plus
Looking for a discreet and stylish Italian in north west London? Pasta Plus, located on Eversholt Street in Euston, is a simple and elegant eatery that belies its mass-market moniker. Filled with bentwood chairs and sophisticated business types, the light-filled conservatory restaurant has been run by the same pasta-loving family for over 30 years, and if you look closely you'll notice the bonhomous interactions between staff and the dining room's regular faces. Perfect for pre-commuting meals, leisurely lunches and romantic tables for two – Pasta Plus offer a variety of authentic Italian dishes, and we recommend the Penne Matriciana with bacon in a tomato and chilli sauce with a glass of hearty Tuscan Montepulciano.

Sardo Canale
Sardo Canale’s location on the banks of Regent’s Canal is a charming, out-of-the-way spot befitting celeb-tastic Primrose Hill. A series of airy slate-floored, brick-walled spaces combine to create an atmospheric mix of modern Italian minimalism and Sardinian rustica. At the front is a conservatory overlooking a courtyard, and leading to the back, a lounge area that was once a cobblestone barge-horse tunnel. Top marks for looks. Full marks for the food. Not surprising, really, this being the sister of the acclaimed family-run Sardo in Grafton Way. The menu is mostly Sardinian – exquisitely fresh fregola, spaghetti alla bottarga (dried mullet roe sauce), and seabass cooked in that most traditional of ways – with a salt crust. Absolutely wonderful stuff.

Tikino
With its bright blue and white exterior, you can't miss Tikino along Hurdwick Place in the backstreets of Camden near Harrington Square. Inside, Tikino has a breezy brasserie vibe with tiled floors, neutral décor, ornate wrought iron table bases and shelves with string instruments and wine bottles on artistic display. Suitable for group dining and family nights out, the restaurant is loved for its authentic Italian pizzas, and our favourite is the fruitti di mare topped with tomatoes, mozzarella and seafood drizzled with garlic oil. Other favourites include the Chef’s salad with pancetta, avocado and brie with mixed leaves and cherry tomatoes; and the tagliatelle carbonara with smoked Italian bacon cooked with parmesan and eggs in a creamy sauce.
