Gilgamesh
A round of applause, please, for epic Gilgamesh restaurant, the Camden powerhouse. Celebrity chef Ian Pengelley brings his acclaimed pan-Asian cuisine to this big, bold Babylonian-style space in London’s Camden Town Stables Market development. The open kitchen of the main restaurant invites you to gaze at Pengelley in action as he creates his inventive Asian food. Unusually for a London restaurant, Gilgamesh's dining room itself feels endlessly spacious, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows and a 40ft high ceiling with a retractable roof. A sake sommelier will assist you in exploring the comprehensive menu of more than 30 different sakes and matching them to the dishes you choose. And there’s more. Few London restaurants have bar areas as luxurious and mood-enhancing as the Gilgamesh bar and lounge. You must sample the ornate traditional tea room, which will entice you to stay from noon till late.

Meghna
This intimate, elegant Indian restaurant in London’s fashionable and established St John’s Wood has recently undergone a change of management and complete refurbishment. The stylish interior at Meghna features tiled floors, dark leather and glass furniture with chrome accents, and the menu offers traditional and healthy Indian recipes. Cooking involves the use of the Tandoor for an authentic Indian smoky flavour, and a large charcoal-fired oven for baking naan bread. Classic dishes include the lamb chilli gosht – boneless lamb in a spicy tomato-based sauce garnished with green chillies; tandoori king prawns – prawns marinated in herbs and roasted in the clay oven; and the chicken tikka masala.

Meghna
Sister restaurant to the long-standing and much-beloved Meghna in St. John’s Wood, this branch of Meghna restaurant brings fine Indian cuisine to London’s leafy Hampstead. The famous ‘Horse Groom’ landmark building on the corner of Heath Street has been transformed into a beautiful Indian restaurant. Meghna’s elegant dining room – with dark wooden chairs, crisp white linens and tiled floors – is popular with locals, particularly for the excellent seafood dishes and beautifully spiced curries for which the kitchen is renowned. Al fresco lovers can dine under the sun or stars on the well-appointed roof terrace, whereas those looking for a nibble and cocktail shouldn’t miss the Indian tapas lounge that serves light Indian finger snacks to sample with lassis, juices and cocktails. Don’t miss the Meghna special chicken – a house specialty with mildly flavoured boneless chicken in a creamy sauce garnished with omelet and nuts.

XO
Sleek, chic XO restaurant fits in perfectly with the high-gloss area of London’s Belsize Park where it finds itself. Sister to Eight Over Eight and the Great Eastern Dining Room, this baby comes from the family of restaurateur Will Ricker. XO takes its name from a term that means ‘highly desirable’ (also a beloved Hong Kong chilli sauce) and oh, it is, it is. A beautiful group of diners crowds the minimalist bar and dining rooms, sharing multiple pretty plates of Chinese/Asian fusion cuisine with wild abandon. Start decadently with XO’s own dim sum of Peking duck and foie gras dumplings or the irresistible sushi. Mains include black cod with miso, the LBD of Asian cuisine. Under no circumstances should you miss sampling the huge, sophisticated cocktail list, including the pomegranate martini. This is West End quality in a pretty and fabulous neighbourhood restaurant.
