Bella Vista Cucina Italiana
Blackheath Village locals in London are all well-acquainted with this fixture on the local dining scene which has been going strong for 20 years. Bella Vista is a super-chic little Italian eatery on Montpelier Vale, and the brand new Milan-meets-Notting-Hill interior is attracting a lively crowd of fashionable Italianophilic foodies. We adore the eclectic hand-printed wallpaper, sophisticated colour scheme, stellar wine list and genuinely cosy vibe at Bella Vista, and star dishes from the menu include the charcoal calamari with lemon, chilli and rocket; the beef tagliata with braised radicchio and roast potatoes; and the delicious almond and chocolate Caprese cake served with strawberries and cream.

Cantina del Ponte
London's Cantina del Ponte restaurant subscribes to the three R's that make Italian food great: rustic, robust, and reasonably priced. Located on the Thames with stupendous riverside views of Tower Bridge from its umbrella-covered terrace, Cantina del Ponte might just transport you from grey old Blighty to a trattoria in Italy. That said, the décor here is a smart mixture of up-to-the-minute stylish combined with a Mediterranean-toned mural that complements the thrilling views. Savvy diners flock to this former Conran restaurant for business lunches and romantic dinners. Let the charming Itatlian waiters ply you with beef carpaccio with rocket and capers; corn-fed chicken with sweet and sour aubergines; or pollock baked in tomato with olives, capers and raisins. Main courses also include pasta dishes such seafood linguine and potato and truffle ravioli. Cantina del Ponte’s wine list confidently remains with the Italian borders, and a separate fine wine list offers some truly memorable bottles.

Cotto
Since the Romans left, the Italians have been operating a policy of conquering the world's palate, plate by plate, and traditionally-run family restaurants like Cotto are their failsafe. The welcome is unfailingly warm here, the decor is authentic in feel, with murals on the walls, and the pleasures of the table are taken seriously indeed. Cotto is well-sited for noshing down before or after family outings to the London Eye or Aquarium, and it's also very popular with business customers during the week. There's live music on offer, too. As for the menu, try classic Tricolor salad to start, one of more than a dozen pastas, like Spaghetti carbonara, and a main course of simply and beautifully grilled Sirloin steak. Or just opt for a pizza and be happy!
