Mekan
Opened in September 2009, the Mekān Café and Restaurant is a diverse new addition to the south east London dining scene. Located in Catford on the Bromley Road, this modern Turkish/Mediterranean dining room has a sleek, comfortable interior designed for relaxed, sociable meals, and you can choose to eat in the ground floor bar and restaurant, the al fresco terrace in summertime, or the downstairs dining area which is ideal for parties. There is live music here every Fri-Sat night, and the menu at Mekān has both Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern twists. We love the traditional lamb moussaka with aubergines, potatoes and cheese sauce; and the deep-fried mussels in a white wine, dill, saffron and thyme sauce.

Nar Restaurant
Set in the railway arches on the Albert Embankment, near Vauxhall in London, Nar is an atmospheric restaurant with a delicious Mediterranean menu that opened its doors in early 2009. The dining room has a unique, cavernous feel with its vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and whitewashed walls contrasting with the smart crisp white table linens. Because of its brick vaulted dining room contrasted with fine white table linens and elegant lighting and upholstery, Nar is an unusual restaurant for intimate meals and a fun restaurant for parties or group get-togethers. With more than a nod towards Turkish cuisine, the menu at Nar – which means pomegranate in Turkish - includes crowd-pleasers like the range of hummus, meze and baked casseroles, all perfect for sharing with friends. Modern and classic Turkish cuisine is lovingly prepared and served and the attention to detail is excellent. The restaurant’s casual atmosphere makes Nar an easy choice for good value meals in this part of London.

Troia Bar and Restaurant
This smart glass-fronted café, restaurant bar on Belvedere Road is neighbours with the Royal Festival Hall, Yo Sushi! and Chez Gerard in that cultural hot-spot, the Southbank. Offering a set meal for £16.50, it's certainly the cheaper of the three. The 82-dishes (excluding set, special and children meals) offer a comprehensive taste of Turkey's national (healthy) diet. There's kisir, a cold starter of nuts, bulgar wheat, herbs and spring onions. Hearty mains include kuzu guvec, a lamb casserole, and a delicious mariage of runner beans and onions served with a rich tomato sauce and rice called yesil fasulye. There are fish, pasta, rice, and special veggie dishes too. Desserts make an intriguing change from treacle pudding and cheesecake. How about kaymakh kestane - sweet chestnuts sprinkled with chestnuts and served with home-made cream?
