Bavo
Bavo won the best Turkish restaurant award from the Archant Food and Drinks awards. Fresh food, good service and pleasing design are virtually givens in any popular restaurant. What marks Bavo out is the spirit in which they are offered. Seyho Kurt puts heart and soul into this, his first restaurant, and foodies are responding. The majority of the affluent 40-something locals, celebrities and enthusiasts from across the capital and beyond are there on recommendation. A modern, minimalist yet unmistakably warm interior of olive and aubergine walls, polished wood floors, unusual lanterns and a decorative tiled bar is as much a hit as the Turkish and Mediterranean food. Regulars insist on the grilled scallops, the seabass, or the charcoal kebab special - lamb, chicken, quail and meatballs. A tasty breakfast menu is served at weekends. Wonderful, un-hurried service.

Best Mangal
Kebabs tend to be a polarizing kind of food. Unless you’ve had a few, you either love them or you hate them. Until, that is, you try one from Best Mangal. We don’t want to come across all preachy, but these really are some of the most delicious kebabs in town. Best Mangal starts with fresh, juicy meat cooked over the restaurant’s traditional charcoal BBQ, then gently eases it into their own soft, homemade flat bread. Select your choice of crisp toppings and dig in. The cheerful dining room at Best Mangal, found on the North End Road in West Kensington, gets extremely busy at both lunch and dinner, so it’s best to book in advance for a table.

Best Mangal
The mangal is a traditional way of barbecuing food commonly used in Turkey and the Middle East and here it is used to the very best effect. With a party atmosphere and friendly, welcoming service, Best Mangal brings relaxed dining to the West – or more appropriately to West Kensington. Comfortably and attractively appointed, Best Mangal is certainly not your typical kebab joint, in fact this restaurant is giving the kebab a whole new image. Pull up a stool around the central mangal where you can sip a drink whilst watching your wood being expertly prepared in front of your eyes. With a whole host of grilled meats to choose from plus delectable Middle Eastern starters and hot breads, rice and salad to accompany, Best Mangal offers something totally different, well priced and delicious.

Efes Ocakbasi Restaurant
Proof that times have changed around London’s famous stalls, Efes Ocakbasi is very different to the usual Broadway Market restaurants. Active in Hackney since 1890, Broadway Market has gone from strength to strength, selling everything from retro clothing to quirky collectibles these days, but food remains the backbone of the market community with visitors coming not only to by but to eat. And not one visitor could fail to be delighted by Efes Ocakbasi, a Turkish restaurant as authentic as its name suggests. This humming meeting place offers a superb, varied menu full of traditional Turkish dishes and a relaxed, cheerful atmosphere, ideal for kicking back after a hard morning’s haggling.

Ishtar
Ishtar restaurant in London's Crawford Street is just steps from the mass of Turkish restaurants in the Edgware Road, and Ishtar manages to distinguish itself with style, refinement and confident cooking. Ishtar is named for the ancient Babylonian goddess of fertility, love and light, so the light and airy dining room here and the lightness of touch in the food aims to reflect her spirit. The décor is smart and modern, with copper-clad walls, modern art, dining on two levels, including under cellar arches where you'll find very cosy corners. The menu at Ishtar restaurant includes all the things you love in Middle Eastern cooking, but updated. Try starter of grilled king prawns with garlic and parsley sauce, main course of grilled fillet of lamb with pastirma. Turkish coffee and wines are an absolute requirement. Expect belly dancers on Friday and Saturday evenings, and a warm and professional welcome at all times.

Iznik Restaurant
Praise has been lavished on Iznik Restaurant in London’s Islington. Indeed, The Guardian calls it ‘the best all round Turkish restaurant in London,’ while GQ refers to it as ‘a true Turkish delight’. It’s easy to see why the critics are in such raptures over Iznik, not only is the interior a fantastical voyage in to the East, complete with low hanging lanterns, warm desert tones and aged artefacts galore but its food is equally authentic too. Since 1989, the Iznik kitchen has poured heart and soul in to its cookery, seeking out and preparing dishes that most realistically speak of both the Ottoman Empire and modern day Turkey alike.
