Awana
Awana restaurant, in London's Sloane Avenue in the heart of Chelsea, is one of the most stylish places you’ll ever sample Malaysian street food. Holding the title for London's finest Malaysian experience, the satay bar and restaurant are a welcoming blend of lush silk panels, glass screens and dark wood interiors. Fine Malaysian eateries are a rarity in London, which makes Awana even more appealing - no wonder a young, well-heeled Chelsea crowd flocks here to sample the imaginative and extensive dishes. And if you think you’ve had chicken satay, you won’t believe how delicate and different the Awana offering is. It’s a revelation. Don’t miss the kari ayam or a spicy sambal. Never had Malaysian food before? The Malaysian Journey tasting menu is a great place to start. ‘Awana’ means ‘in the clouds’ - this is heavenly dining indeed.

Champor-Champor
Taking its name from the Malaysian take on ‘mix and match’, Champor Champor is an Asian restaurant unlike any other. Quirky and wilfully eccentric, Champor Champor’s interior very much lives up to the restaurant’s name with a fabulous mix of colours and materials worked together, complemented by silk lightshades, wood carvings, modern artworks and old artefacts straight from Malaysia, giving the entire restaurant a cosy, bohemian feel under the dim glow of flickering candlelight. A delicious modern Asian fusion menu mixes and matches the flavours of Malaysia with hints of East, South East and South Asia and just a sprinkling of the West too. For the most intimate experience, request Champor Champor’s tiny, quirky mezzanine table with its eyrie view over the rest of the room.

Satay House
For more than 30 years, Satay House restaurant in London’s Paddington has been attracting lovers of Malaysian cuisine from all over the capital and across the globe. Satay House Malaysian restaurant was given a rejuvenating makeover in 2006 by the designers of Wagamama so it now sports cheerful orange feature walls with hibiscus flower stencils, sleek leather upholstery and pools of warm light. Despite the name, the food isn’t just about ‘meat on sticks’, though Satay House’s satay is likely to be the best in the city. Certainly the restaurant is a home-away-from-home for ex-pat Malaysians and there are regular visits from the Malaysian royal family. Large portions of fiery sambal and traditional rending curries offer the perfect opportunity to eat ‘Hidangan style’, or sharing with the rest of your table as in traditional Malay culture. All food served at Satay House is certified Halal and the soft beverages include several intriguing Malay offerings.

Suka
Proving that hotel dining doesn’t have to be fussy and formal, Suka is a refreshingly relaxed restaurant specialising in modern Malaysian cuisine. Set on the ground floor of the Sanderson Hotel, the dining room’s clean lines and moody lighting is popular with a young West End crowd. The menu, created by New York chef Zak Pelaccio, is designed with Asian style sharing in mind and the recently reduced portion sizes and prices allow diners to try a variety of Malaysian dishes. We love the fragrant lemongrass sea bass and the classic beef rendang. In the warmer months, Suka’s stunning Courtyard Garden is perfect for al fresco suppers, while the hotel’s Long Bar is a popular destination for cocktail aficionados at any time of year.
