Back to Basics
Back to Basics restaurant is that rare thing – a neighbourhood bistro in central London serving flawlessly fresh seafood at reasonable prices. This family run restaurant has been open for 15 years and has become a firm favourite with Fitzrovian locals and those from further afield. Much of the menu is chalked on a blackboard and changes daily; in this case the catch of the day really is of the day, and the menu varies depending on what the fisherman bring in. Seafood is the speciality here, and the menu might feature dishes like squid salad, mackerel with lentils or swordfish steak. For those that don't want seafood, rest assured – there are also options like baby chicken, couscous or steak. Customers rave about this place but most mention two things: 1) Back to Basics is a small and very popular restaurant, so book in order to avoid disappointment and 2) if you eat early you'll be spoiled for choice, but by 9pm, many of the day's specials will have run out.

Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill
London’s classic seafood powerhouse has been bought out and revamped by the talented Richard Corrigan of Michelin-starred Lindsay House fame. The handsomely cut masculine dark woods and crisp white tablecloths ooze charm; and the air of traditional, polished and perfected Britishness matches one of the best seafood finds in town. Start off by comparing a selection of Rock and Native oysters (for which Bentley’s is justifiably famous) and move on to a marine-inspired take on beef Wellington with monkfish with cep duxelle wrapped in pastry. To go here and not sample the cracking fresh seafood would be somewhat asking to going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower.
