The elegant restaurant on South Ealing Road is host to resident pianists and jazz musicians as well as regular salsa enthusiasts, and the cosy atmosphere attracts a fun local crowd. The restaurant’s golden walls, tablecloths and potted palms add to the upmarket vibe, and Kuznia Smaku is a popular place for banquets, business dining and wedding receptions. Ognisko In the grand dining room of the Polish Hearth Club, diners enjoy lightly modernised Polish cuisine under the watchful eye of portraits of revered sons -- and daughters -- of the old country. The clientele is a relaxed mix of faithful diners who have been coming here since it opened in 1943 and a much younger, even studenty, crowd. The menu changes quarterly. Recent favourites include barszcz czerwony, or beetroot soup, and lamb shashlick in tomato and tarragon sauce. Beware the vodka list, with its sixteen devilish potions. Very nice, succinct wine list for the faint of heart. Try for a terrace table for balmy days. Cuisine: Polish Location: 55 Prince's Gate, Exhibition Road, London, SW7 2PN [Map] |

The Knaypa This fabulous restaurant in Hammersmith's King Street in London has a chic interior, unique ambience and delicious menu divided into two sections: Eastern European and traditional Polish cuisine. The restaurant is divided into two separate dining areas, the ground floor has contemporary red leather chairs, pale wooden floors and crisp black and red linens; while the downstairs dining room is reminiscent of an old Silesian inn with rustic solid wooden furniture and a homely vibe. The Knaypa has a robust menu featuring the hearty country flavours of central Europe. We love the soured rye soup with white sausage served in a bowl of bread; potato pancake with goulash; and the traditional baked Polish cheesecake. There is an excellent selection of Polish beers and vodkas and worldwide wines. The Knaypa has live jazz every Thursday evening. Cuisine: Polish Location: 268 King Street, London, W6 0SP [Map] |
