El Camion
Tucked away in Brewer Street is El Camion, the Soho branch of Ned Conran’s – son of Terence – hip Mexican restaurant chain that is famous for its huge burritos and devilish cocktail list. This very central location combined with an interior that is all at once both dark and sleek, and kitsch and colourful, El Camion is the perfect venue for dates, pre-theatre bites, late night feasts and birthday parties. Decorated with brightly coloured tablecloths, flowers and a wall display of kooky hot sauces, El Camion is filled with quirky charm but the menu is classically Mexican with all of your favourites from tacos and quesadillas to salads and ice-cold Mexican beers thrown in for good measure.

La Perla
Situated smack bang in the middle of London's schmoozy medialand, La Perla is a chi-chi Tex Mex restaurant complete with modern Mexican murals and retro graphics. Famous for its hearty servings and superb margaritas, La Perla is always busy with an animated, cocktail-swilling luncheon crowd and an upmarket local following in the evenings. Decorated in turquoise, red and yellow, the dining room has a palpable bonhomie and we love the extravagant menu which includes everything from chorizo quesadillas served with chipotle dip to the beef taquitos served with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. Calorie-conscious fashionistas also love the chicken, mango and avocado salad made with a tequila marinade and vinaigrette dressing.

Bright and airy and full of sun thanks to a wide glass frontage offering views of the passing metropolitan scene, Mestizo is decorated in a super modern style with deep, jewel-toned colours and clean lines throughout. Like its sister restaurant in Madrid, Mestizo London is an upmarket take on South American dining with fine and authentic cuisine accompanied by a stunning drinks list with an impressive and inviting selection of native tequilas. Classic nachos, a full menu of burrito choices, more than a dozen types of tacos and the house special molcajete for two are recommended. Robin Hood Zorro Restaurant
Robin Hood Zorro restaurant in Hammersmith is an Anglo-Mexican eating house that spices up West London dining nicely. Smaller than some of the cavernous Mexicans around, it’s lively without being overpowering. As well as the usual menu suspects, there are starters like grilled cockles and bacon, finished with white wine and a dash of cream, or breaded chillies filled with sour cream and cheese. The mains menu is divided into a great selection of grills, wraps, salads or fajitas, and there are some delicious continent-crossing dishes like picadillo or pork shank cooked in cider and apple sauce. So next time you fancy a Mexican, grab your coat, get your sombrero and swashbuckler over to Robin Hood Zorro.
