Frequented by hip Portobello market goers, locals and famous faces alike, Café de Thai is earning itself somewhat of a cult status for its Thai green curries and its dark, romantic dining room. With its list of delicious cocktails and dumplings on offer, we’re sold before we even get to main course. But we also have to put in a special mention for the tom yum koong soup and the steamed sea bass flavoured with lemongrass and fresh lime. Chaopraya Eat-Thai
Chaopraya Eat-Thai restaurant in St Christopher’s Place, one of London’s most charming pedestrian streets just off Oxford Street, is part of an award-winning group of authentic Thai restaurants. Clearly the location makes it a perfect restaurant to choose for weekday business lunches or post-shopping reviving suppers. This lovely little restaurant is decorated opulently with gold and silver panels, gilded mirrors, and vibrantly-coloured wallpaper. The décor is highlighted with intriguing Thai and Cambodian artefacts. There’s a second dining room at Chaopraya downstairs, a spacious lower-ground where wait staff zoom around between tables and diners tuck in with a contented hum. The Thai menu is enormous, but that means lots of choice for you. Most people adore the scallop curry paste, or one of the two ways of having sea bass or lobster. You definitely shouldn't miss the pad Thai Chaopraya, which can be served with soft-shell crabs.

Charm
Set on busy King Street between Chiswick and Hammersmith, Charm combines restaurant and lounge bar with real style. Its red glowing neon signage and glossy black painted exterior has the look of an upmarket West End restaurant while inside you’ll be greeted by a decadent, almost over the top glamour. Large crystal chandeliers light the room while regal furniture combines red and black velvets with gold studding and elegant place settings. Based on the essentials of Thai cuisine, Charm’s menu is Oriental with a twist. While favourites such as pad Thai can be found, also on offer are elegantly contemporary dishes which show imagination and an understanding of flavours which many lesser chefs would envy.

Khao San Thai Restaurant
With its candy pink exterior, golden Buddha statuettes and ruby red walls, Khao San Thai Restaurant is a breath of fresh air in London's trendy Westbourne Grove. Unlike the steel-and-concrete interiors found in many of the neighbourhood's chic eateries, this restaurant has a bright and cheery vibe and an excellent menu to match. Located on Chepstow Road, Khao San Thai is a hit with the local Thai community and media types, and favourites include the spicy prawn salad with cashew nuts and a chilli dressing; the pork stir-fried with rice noodles, bean sprouts and eggs; and the signature Gaeng Som Goong Sod Kai Cha Oom curry with king prawns served a Thai spinach omelette.

Nipa
In the Royal Lancaster Hotel, the Nipa restaurant has been named after the original Nipa Restaurant in the Landmark Hotel in Bangkok. Lots of teak panelling, traditional Thai furnishings and artefacts lend an authentic air. All the staff dressed in traditional Thai costume are from Thailand - even the lady chefs. This authentic Thai restaurant is one of the first 15 recipients of the 'Thai Select' award - this award has been described as being the first ever Michelin-style award for Thai restaurants proven to be performing to the highest standards of quality and cuisine, and is awarded by the Thai Government. We think this award sums up Nipa Thai rather nicely. What's cooking? Kai Haw Bai Toey - deep fried marinated chicken in pandanus leaves, Kaeng Kiew Warn Kai - chicken in green curry soup, also recommended the Nipa platter - a selection of the chef's special Thai starters.
