Med Kitchen Med Kitchen restaurant in London near Sadler’s Wells Theatre, heaving Exmouth Market and the Angel is yet another winner in the ever-expanding Med Kitchen group that is slowly but surely conquering the capital. This Med Kitchen has the same bustling, contemporary ambience that Londoners seem to love at other branches, with a freshly-prepared Mediterranean menu of simple brasserie-style cuisine served by friendly staff in a Grade II-listed St John’s Street building, formerly Café Med. Med Kitchen has an easy brasserie look of plain walls, shiny wood tables and brown leather banquette seating that all fit neatly into the Islington style. There are lots of unfussy dishes to choose from, from meze and eggs Benedict to traditional pasta, fresh salmon fishcakes, and Donald Russell (grass-fed, traditionally reared) beef steaks and fries. Fantastic desserts are here to tempt you, as is the easy-drinking international wine list at affordable prices. Cuisine: Mediterranean Location: 370 St John Street, London, EC1V 4NN [Map] |

Moro Moro restaurant in London’s Exmouth Market may retain its reputation as one of the hippest restaurants in one of the hippest parts of the capital, but this Clerkenwell restaurant still focuses more on good food than its own image. Moro’s décor with its polished wooden floors, long zinc bar, open view to the kitchen and its charcoal grill and wood-burning oven, is functional and welcoming. Cuisine of the southern Mediterranean, from the Iberian Peninsula into Northern Africa, is the menu’s exclusive province. This Moorish cuisine with European influence is every bit as striking as it was when the restaurant opened its doors in 1997. Moro’s menu changes weekly to reflect the freshest of seasonal produce, and there is a shortish list of tapas too. The wine list shows the owner's passion for sherry, a wine first brought to Jerez by the Phoenicians, with nearly two dozen available, many by the glass. Zuccato City Zuccato City doesn't just want to feed you, it wants to whisk you away to a diferent country and a different era, to relax and refresh you before sending you back - well-nourished - to shoulder your daily life. Walk into the 'lane' level bar and you will find a space inspired by Fellini's La Dolce Vita set in 1950's Milan, then go through to a secluded courtyard or down to the stylish restaurant. As for the food, well wow, bella. Someone at your table absolutely must have a pizza, just because they're so great. But for more substantial fare, try the trad starter of deep-fried squid with rocket and tartare sauce, then follow with risotto with tiger prawns and ceps, then roll on to the great Scotch rib-eye steak with green peppercorn sauce. Then hop onto your Vespa and whisk away. Cuisine: Mediterranean Location: 4 Bow Lane, Off Cheapside, London, EC4M 9EB [Map] |
