Carnevale Restaurant
Carnevale Restaurant in London's Hoxton is one of the new faces of vegetarian cuisine, serving unusual and intriguing vegetarian dishes with a Mediterranean inflection. Tucked away on a side street, this gem of a restaurant is a terrific choice for pre-concert or pre-theatre meals before heading to the Barbican or St Luke's. Carnevale is almost as popular with unreconstructed omnivores as it is with dedicated vegetarians. From the street it appears to be a tiny treasure trove of unusual and intriguing ingredients and most first time visitors are surprised to find the handful of pine tables and chairs in the back of the store, leading out to a cool and shady courtyard. Equally astounding is Carnevale’s wide choice of Mediterranean style meat-free food – sharing plates, snacks and full, hearty meals – with plenty of nut-free, gluten-free and vegan choices too. And Carnevale complements its meat-free menu with an interesting wine list of organic and local labels.

Saf Restaurant & Bar
With the addition of Saf Restaurant and Bar to London’s dining scene, raw and vegan cuisine just got sexy. Situated in trendy Shoreditch and the third in the international chain - including Saf restaurants in Istanbul and Munich - Saf’s long, slim room features clean lines of fashionable reclaimed wood with a gleaming glass panel at one end so you can watch the chefs work their magic on this scrupulously vegetarian cuisine. Using only 100% botanical and organic food with no animal, dairy, refined or processed elements, the chefs prepare many dishes by heating them only up to 48°C, thus preserving optimal flavour and nutrition. It’s enough to send any meat-eater running for the door, but Saf’s pretty plates and innovative techniques and flavours make a surprising hit with both carnivores and veggies alike. It’s feel-good food on a beautifully grand scale. And on Sunday afternoons Saf serves-up the best vegan roast in town.
