Cigala Located between Russell Square and Holborn, Cigala is a dream come true if you’re craving authentic Spanish food. Owner and chef Jake Hodges was one of the founders of the legendary Moro in Clerkenwell, so it’s no surprise that his own eatery is very popular with London’s foodies. The menu features classic Spanish dishes like hearty pork, chorizo and bean stew; prawns with garlic and chilli; and delicious paella with monkfish. The friendly service and stylish décor make Cigala the ideal setting for mid-week dinners with friends and family. At lunchtime, you can pop in for a few dishes from their traditional tapas menu and a glass or two from the excellent wine list. We know you’ll be back for more! Pinchito Tapas Oozing with urban Spanish style, this brand new tapas bar on Bayley Street is a welcome addition to the neighbourhood dining scene that is part Lower East side hipster hang-out, part El Born hole-in-the-wall. Located right next to the myhotel, Pinchito is only minutes from Tottenham Court Road and is a sociable spot for business lunches, after-work drinks and chic dates. With a colourful dining room straight from the streets of Barcelona, the down-to-earth service and moreish menu make this one of our favourite spots in WC1, and we recommend the Albondigas con olives verdes meat balls with green olives, and the choclate churros for a sweet snack. Dont miss the killer cocktail list - our favourite is the Catalan Flip. Cuisine: Spanish Location: 11 Bayley Street, Bedford Square, WC1B 3HD [Map] |

Salvador and Amanda Neighbour to The Photographers Gallery on the cusp of Covent Garden and Soho, Salvador and Amanda is the latest blissed-out bar from the reliably funky Breakfast Group. Calling itself as a Bar Y Tapas Y Fiesta (that's snacks and Balearic beats until the toddler hours to you and me), it offers a distinctive rustic, 'Real Spain' inspired interior by Paul Daly of Elbow Rooms and Lab fame. Naturally, it's packed to the sombreros with young professionals, but it isn't at all pretentious - a glance at the large bull-fight posters tell you that. In keeping with the general feel, classic Spanish tapas such as mini de pepito concebolla (steak and onion in toasted roll) form the backbone of the menu. But read on - the descriptions tell your tastebuds all they need to know: clams in sherry with ham, spider crab tortilla, paella croquettes...Should you find out who Salvador and Amanda are, do let us know. We think they must be a pretty cool pair. Cuisine: Spanish Location: 8 Great Newport Street, London, WC2H 7JA [Map] |
