Clos Maggiore
If romance is in the cards, one of London's most romantic restaurants is Covent Garden's award-winning Clos Maggiore. Echoing the charming country inns of Provence and Tuscany, the warmly muted décor, low lighting and welcoming log fire were clearly designed with love in mind. The skylight is surrounded with twining, flower-starred branches to resemble an Italianate courtyard, a delightful faux-rural treat in the city centre. Seasonally inspired classic French cuisine coupled with impeccable service is the order of the day at Clos Maggiore restaurant, with a focus on chic presentation and bold flavours. Sample braised shoulder of rabbit with sweet and sour black radish and wholegrain mustard mousseline, or a flavoursome roast blackleg chicken with foie gras, petits pois à la française and smoked bacon cream. Wine buffs adore Clos Maggiore’s wine list – it has won several awards from Wine Spectator magazine and the AA Restaurant Guide.

Denise's Restaurant
Denise’s has barely changed since it opened in 1989. On any given day over half the diners are regulars. "Hello! So nice to see you!" says amiable owner/manager Denise, ushering them in as if into her own lounge. Some have come from abroad; most have been coming for years, finding comfort in the familiar dated burgundy wallpaper, carpet and chairs. Equally as welcome are the down-to-earth modern European dishes. The warmth of the atmosphere can’t be overstated; Denise’s heartfelt hospitality - all too rare these days - pervades her front restaurant.
