Garden and Grill Quite possibly one of London’s most enticing locations The Garden and Grill, another offering from the team which brought us Thai River, is set on a roof terrace overlooking bustling Portobello Road in the always popular Notting Hill. The unassuming entrance may not promise much but make your way up the winding staircase above the shops and houses and you’ll find outdoor dining year round. Heaters and a ramshackle roof ensure that even in the depths of winter enjoying the Garden and Grill is a pleasant experience while twinkling fairy lights add a magical ambience and top end service ensures a little extra warmth. All of Thailand’s favourites can be enjoyed on the varied Garden and Grill menu with something for everybody. Cuisine: Thai Location: 253a Portobello Road, London, W11 1LR [Map] |

Khao San Thai Restaurant With its candy pink exterior, golden Buddha statuettes and ruby red walls, Khao San Thai Restaurant is a breath of fresh air in London's trendy Westbourne Grove. Unlike the steel-and-concrete interiors found in many of the neighbourhood's chic eateries, this restaurant has a bright and cheery vibe and an excellent menu to match. Located on Chepstow Road, Khao San Thai is a hit with the local Thai community and media types, and favourites include the spicy prawn salad with cashew nuts and a chilli dressing; the pork stir-fried with rice noodles, bean sprouts and eggs; and the signature Gaeng Som Goong Sod Kai Cha Oom curry with king prawns served a Thai spinach omelette. Nahm Europe’s very first Michelin starred Thai restaurant, Nahm offers an utterly incomparable experience. Situated within the high class Halkin hotel in upmarket Belgravia, Nahm is unlike any other Thai restaurant in London and quite possibly beyond. Chic settings are reminiscent perhaps of a modern Thai palace; antiqued gold pillars surround the dining room where simple richly toned wood is lifted with touches of regal deep red, just a suggestion of Nahm’s cuisine. An original and creative Thai experience, the menu is the work of Australian chef David Thompson who has put together dishes delicately spiced with his own artful hand to bring a flavour of Thailand in to the world of gourmet cuisine. A lunch menu based around Thai street food is an additional touch of genius. Cuisine: Thai Location: 5 Halkin Street, Belgravia, London, SW1X 7DJ [Map] |

Nakhon Thai Glass walls give uninterrupted views of Royal Victoria Dock while potted plants and beautiful artefacts liberally placed around Nakhon Thai’s two open-plan floors hint at an exoticism mirrored in the fantastic food. The oasis spreads outside on to the waterfront where you can relax in the fresh air surrounded by mini palm trees and pretend the Thames Gateway is really the South China Sea. On Fridays and Saturdays nights, live music and candlelight create a rather romantic atmosphere. A vast menu details authentic and original dishes from all over Thailand. The talking point, it’s worth knowing, is the lobster curry - made fresh every day. Other bestsellers include pad thai, green chicken curry and mussaman lamb. Delicious! The restaurants Executive Chef prepares authentic dishes from each of the diverse regions of Thailand, including fragrant curries, spicy tom yum soups and classic pad Thai. We recommend trying one of the chefs specialties like creamy yellow curry with lobster or crab claws slowly-braised in a unique herb sauce. Nipa In the Royal Lancaster Hotel, the Nipa restaurant has been named after the original Nipa Restaurant in the Landmark Hotel in Bangkok. Lots of teak panelling, traditional Thai furnishings and artefacts lend an authentic air. All the staff dressed in traditional Thai costume are from Thailand - even the lady chefs. This authentic Thai restaurant is one of the first 15 recipients of the 'Thai Select' award - this award has been described as being the first ever Michelin-style award for Thai restaurants proven to be performing to the highest standards of quality and cuisine, and is awarded by the Thai Government. We think this award sums up Nipa Thai rather nicely. What's cooking? Kai Haw Bai Toey - deep fried marinated chicken in pandanus leaves, Kaeng Kiew Warn Kai - chicken in green curry soup, also recommended the Nipa platter - a selection of the chef's special Thai starters.
