Al Duca
Al Duca restaurant in London’s historic and elegant St James’s is an Italian restaurant that offers reasonable prices with style in what can be a pricey part of town. Opened by leading restaurateur Claudio Pulze (think Osteria dell’Angolo, Brasserie St Jacques, Via Condotti) in 1999, Al Duca remains one of the most popular eateries in the chic St James's area. Located between Piccadilly Circus and Green Park, this authentic Italian restaurant is ideal for business lunches, pre-theatre dinners and full-on feasts for the whole family. The interior is a comfortably stylish mix of light wood, crisp white linen and wall-mounted wine racks, while the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious. Al Duca's menu features classic dishes like beef carpaccio with rocket and parmesan, roasted leg of rabbit with polenta, and delicious pastas like homemade ravioli with pheasant and rosemary. For dessert, we recommend the vanilla panna cotta with a glass of something smooth from their extensive Italian wine list.

Amaya
Amaya restaurant, the India Grill and Bar, is tucked away in one of London’s smartest addresses on the border of Knightsbridge and Belgravia. This award-winning restaurant is something new from the team behind super-successful Chutney Mary. Rosewood, vibrant red panels, jewel-painted tiles, Agra red sandstone, and smart Italian chairs make for a seriously stylish space peopled by a very well-groomed and well-dressed crowd, where three types of Indian grilling take place in the theatrically open kitchen. Dishes are meant for sharing. Concentrate on grilled dishes like lamb chops, lobster, tandoori chicken, fish kebabs, sweet potato. If you’re still peckish, follow with a curry or biryani. Tasting menu, express lunch menu, and 400-calorie lunch are each tempting in their own ways.

Andalucia
This modern tapas restaurant just off Leicester Square brings a slice of Spanish warmth and positivity to the West End. Decorated in lots of glossy wood, with banquette seating strewn with colourful cushions against a mirrored wall, it feels uncluttered and relaxed; diners are never rushed to finish. Not that you’d want to hurry through such fresh, simple dishes as croquetas de pescado (fish croquettes), gambas al ajillo (King prawns in a garlic, chilli and wine sauce), and albondigas (meatballs in a red wine and tomato sauce). Recommended mains included paella Valenciana, and a delicious duck breast marinated with orange peel, juicy onions and potatoes.

Angus Steak House
Cementing England’s love affair with American style restaurants, the Angus Steak House first appeared in 1976. This, the Haymarket branch, is handily situated for sightseers looking for an easy, unpretentious meal in a central location and offers not only good food but a pleasantly friendly atmosphere too. Decorated in Angus Steak House trademark red – the colour which covers everything from seating to menus and even those famous glowing signs – the restaurant is utterly comfortable and laid back. The Angus menu is as steak-centric as ever with varying cuts, sides, sauces and sizes all offered, although an increasing number of alternative dishes have been added so now even veggies don’t need to see red here.
