Bombay Nights
Coming to London from way out West is Bombay Nights, the Hampstead branch of a popular West Country mini-chain. With restaurants in Bristol and Bath it was only a matter of time before the capital got in on the act. And surprisingly Bombay Nights is already making its mark in a City packed with Indian restaurants. How? By combining unpretentious but stylish interiors using simple brown leather and white tablecloths with warm red walls with good, honest food. With a strong vegetarian menu which doesn’t compromise on flavour, plus beautifully spiced regional meat, fish and seafood dishes this is truly a restaurant which takes Indian dining to the next level.

Bradleys Restaurant
Bradleys restaurant in London’s Swiss Cottage is the first choice of locals for pre-theatre meals near the Hampstead Theatre or for meals with friends and family in a relaxed atmosphere. And Bradleys has held that place in their hearts for some years. Chef Patron Simon Bradley has a time-honoured recipe for success: highest-quality ingredients, inventive cooking, welcoming staff, spacious dining room with intimate corners. The décor is mildly 1930’s-inspired made more serene by a leafy garden. Bradley’s menu is best described as British cuisine with a southern French accent, luring well-fed regulars who include both fortunate locals and in-the-know diners from right across the capital. Chef Bradley has a way with fish, especially chargrilled halibut with leek confit and wild mushrooms, and carnivores and vegetarians are superbly fed, as well. The expansive wine list features over 90 different wines from around the world and has won critical acclaim from the Good Food Guide and a Bib Gourmand from Michelin.

Brasserie Gérard
Just moments from the greenery of Regents Park, in the lovely St John’s Wood area of the city is Brasserie Gérard. Here you’ll find a welcoming, local vibe; perfectly pitted against other neighbourhood restaurants, as well as excellent service and a light, bright interior with a real Parisian feel. Bull and Last
On the corner of the Highgate Road and Woodsome Road, chances are you’ve walked past The Bull and Last countless times, imagining just another pub. But step inside and be treated to an inn with a passion for food. A pared down interior is in keeping with local tastes, the pub moving on from the good old days of horse brass excess. But once a drink or two have been sipped at the bar, head upstairs for food to what is a surprisingly restaurant-like ambience. This is no ordinary gastropub, you see. The menu is British with occasional French influences, put together with flair and a respect for ‘real’ food – Sunday lunches, particularly, are unmissable.

Camden Bar & Kitchen
Formerly Ruby In The Dust, “The Kitchen” continues to offer a great vibe and lovely food at kind prices. The look has changed much; it’s still a funky bohemian mix of odd wooden school tables and chairs surrounded by jewelled Mathew Williamson wallpapered walls illuminated by crystal chandeliers. A central fireplace warms the collective cockles in winter, but when the sun’s out everyone loves to sit by the open window, 70s, 80s and 90s choons playing happily above their heads all the while. The homemade, free-range-wherever-it-can-be grub’s as great as ever – from the famous house breakfast to the huge, award-winning steak burgers, and the equally celebrated banoffie pie. Lush. The crowd? A typical Camden mix of musicians, students, locals and regulars.

Food is modern European cuisine with a uniquely international touch, and dishes are available in both large and small portions. The menu has changed little over the years because the regulars complain when it does, though the fresh, seasonal specials are a delight. Caponata Ristorante, Osteria & Bar
At first glance Camden’s Caponata may appear to be your usual Italian café-bar. But on closer inspection there’s certainly nothing ‘usual’ about this place at all. Split in to two distinct areas, Caponata offers something for everyone, from a quick snack at lunchtime to a romantic three course supper, an after work drink or a long Sunday dinner. Downstairs a casual Osteria with breezy atmosphere and rustic homecooked food spills out in to a gorgeous courtyard with living garden wall. On certain evenings a partition slides away to reveal the stage of live music venue The Forge providing entertainment along with dinner and drinks. Upstairs, overlooking the courtyard the Caponata Ristorante is a much more intimate and sophisticated proposition. Serving refined versions of Sicilian favourites up here you’ll find yourself a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of Camden.
