Bhangra Beat
Bhangra Beat is a specialist Balti house in South Woodford that is known as much for its punchy curries as it is for its smiley service and weekly live music nights. Located on Chigwell Road, the restaurant has blonde wooden floors, white linens and cream high-backed chairs, and the crowd is a mix of social locals and chicken tikka masala devotees. Live Indian and Western music is offered up every Saturday night at Bhangra Beat, and highlights from the menu include the Goan fish curry infused with spices and cooked in a coconut sauce; the chicken jungle curry with spring onions, green peppers, ginger and crushed chillies; and the barbecued duck fillets served in an orange and honey sauce.

Café Naz
Brick Lane is bustling with curry houses, bakeries and hip bars, and Café Naz – with its Indian-brasserie style interior, is one of the oldest and most famous restaurant in the lane. The dining room at Café Naz is decorated with a glass staircase, loud splashes of yellow, purple and lime green, and plenty of potted palms. The jovial atmosphere is perfect for family nights out, late-night curries and fun parties – and the servings here are huge. We recommend the hyderabadi achar gost – chunks of lamb slow-cooked on the bone and served in a rich curry sauce with limes and spices – washed down with a bottle Kingfisher or Cobra beer.
