The White Swan
If you don't believe in fairytales, perhaps a visit to The White Swan will change your mind. Tom and Ed Martin, the brothers who run the Swan's popular sister pub, The Well, have applied their magic to transform the former Mucky Duck into a charismatic gastropub. The groundfloor houses a beautifully restored pub packed with local bankers, lawyers and advertising execs, above which is a mezzanine area (first choice of many an office party). The first floor meanwhile is an oak-floored, mirrored ceiling restaurant serving tasty British food along the likes of steak and kidney suet pudding, and blood orange marmalade sponge pudding with custard. The wine menu lists an impressive 150 bottles from around the world. If you're up for a change from London Pride and Greene King IPA, try one of the two monthly-changing guest ales.

Tom's Kitchen
He may be one of London’s most celebrated chefs but that doesn’t mean Tom Aikens is dedicated to over-complex cordon bleu. In fact Tom’s Kitchen is more gastropub than gourmet with its white-washed brick walls, scrubbed wood tables and reclaimed fixtures and fittings. From breakfast through to dinner the Tom’s Kitchen philosophy is that food should be inclusive – something to be shared and enjoyed with friends and family, something which evokes memories and feelings and something which isn’t fussy and pretentious. With this in mind the menu is fresh, local and seasonal with comfortingly familiar flavours; from classical British fish and chips to a warming French style duck confit with cannellini bean cassoulet.

Tom's Kitchen
Lovers of hearty, traditional British fare will be familiar with Tom Aikens' Chelsea restaurant, Tom's Kitchen. The Michelin starred wunderkind has now taken the food reigns at London's Somerset House and opened another branch of Tom's Kitchen right on The Strand. The restaurant itself is sleek and pared-back, with lots of blonde wood and leather, in contrast to the rather grand Georgian exterior of the building and the impressive view over the Thames. The brasserie-style menu is the same as at the Chelsea branch; customers will welcome unassuming classics including macaroni cheese, 28 day aged Scotch premier beef burgers and treacle sponge. There is also a node to French elegance with foie gras, mackerel pâté and tarte tatin also featuring on the menu. However you choose, you can rest safe in the knowledge that it will have been made using the best ingredients and with Michelin level skill and attention to detail.
