The Holly Bush
One of Hampstead’s favourite pub-restaurants, The Holly Bush is tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac away from prying eyes. Once the stables belonging to the home of painter George Romney, The Holly Bush was converted in to a tavern in the early 1800s and much of the original character remains to this day. It’s the original panelled walls, high backed booths and imposing curved bar which gives The Holly Bush such character and comfort while the juxtaposition of the rather more glam dining room with its chandeliers, eau de nil upholstered mid-century style furnishings and luxuriously patterned wallpaper gives the pub a wider appeal. Classic but sophisticated British favourites and comfort food make up a menu which perfectly complements the setting.

Though moments from the bustling Upper Street, The House offers a pub dining room experience which brings to mind those evenings one might enjoy in the very best country pubs. The brainchild of Michelin starred chef Jeremy Hollingsworth and accomplished restaurant manager Barnaby Meredith, The House is laid back and comfortable with an unpretentious interior, theatre kitchen and sunny terrace area. With a menu concentrating on the traditionalism of British cookery with a touch of creativity, a homemade ethic and reasonable pricing, it’s not hard to see why London feels so at home at The House.

This hip, cosy and down-to-earth pub and restaurant in Hackney is every local's home-away-from-home – and with its quiz nights, photography exhibitions, film nights and killer cocktails The Kenton has become a bit of a Hackney legend. Dressed up in typical quirky pub décor – including candles, the odd bit of taxidermy and comfy Chesterfield lounges – the pub gets even better when you hear that dogs are welcome, yet singletons everywhere can breath a sigh of relief as after 7pm children aren't allowed. Located at the foot of Sydenham Hill in Dulwich, The Mansion is a lovingly refurbished Victorian pub with a passion for proper British food. The interior is warm and welcoming with dark wood, leather and subtle lighting creating a comfortably stylish setting for any occasion. The cooking style is unfussy but full flavoured, using only the best ingredients, fresh fish and carefully selected cuts of meat like Barnsley chops and Ruby Red rump steak. The Mercer
With its downtown NYC vibe and impeccable Calvin-Klein-meets-Keith-McNally interior, The Mercer is a stylish and bustling restaurant on Threadneedle Street in the City of London. Just to make sure that the bankers and traders feel comfortable, The Mercer was formerly a bank and it still retains the soaring ceilings and great pillars of its earlier life. The sophisticated, almost monochrome, surroundings have become an instant hit with the neighbourhood's ubiquitous media and City folk, and is a hip hangout for working lunches and chic cocktails. The Mercer restaurant’s assured British cuisine is flawless. We highly recommend the roast monkfish tail with trompette mushrooms and leeks and lobster dressing, the rib of pork with apple and black pudding mash, and mustard sauce, and the chocolate marquise with honeycomb ice cream and candied satsuma. The Mercer's prestigious wine list is superb and offers up to 40 wines by the glass and carafe, a terrific way for diners to pair wines with various courses.
