Small-Group Day Trip to Oxford, the Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon from London

Small-Group Day Trip to Oxford, the Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon from LondonGo on a wonderful and rewarding day trip from London to three of England’s most popular destinations: Oxford, the charming villages of the Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon (the birthplace of Shakespeare). You will see the best sights and discover the historical richness of these places in a small group with no more than 16 people, ensuring a more intimate experience.

Begin your journey on a scenic drive west over the Chiltern Hills to the city of Oxford, the first stop on your day trip. Famous for its prestigious university founded in 1167, Oxford is a fabulous place for a walking tour with your friendly guide. Walk around the university’s beautiful grounds, with its different colleges like Christ Church and All Souls, and see where famous writers, artists and inventors studied. Learn about the lives of locals like Tolkien, CS Lewis and Lewis Carroll, and see places from the Harry Potter film set. You will also have time to explore the city’s narrow streets and lanes, where both students and townsfolk do their shopping and go about their daily routines.

Next, head northwest to the beautiful region of the Cotswolds, which became prosperous in the Middle Ages due to the wool trade and has remained an attractive place for weekend getaways. While you enjoy the drive down tiny one-track lanes through gentle rolling hills, admire the golden stone villages, green pastures and ancient churches that adorn the landscape. With your guide, visit the villages Burford, explore the delightful Coln Valley and the villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter before you stop for lunch (own expense) in the market town of Stow-on-the-Wold.

In the afternoon, make your way north to the last stop of your day trip, Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of England’s greatest playwright, William Shakespeare. Enjoy expert narration about the history of the poet and take a guided driving tour to the places in Stratford that were important to Shakespeare. Famous locations include the Holy Trinity Church where he was baptized and buried, his school and, of course, his birthplace. The entry to his birthplace is included.

After some free time, make your way back to London, stopping briefly in Shottery for a photo opportunity of the thatched-roof English cottage of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare’s wife.
