London Bike Tour: Maritime Greenwich and Olympic Park

London Bike Tour: Maritime Greenwich and Olympic ParkEnjoy a full-day bike tour as you take in the wonders of maritime London, passing old docklands and ships like the 'Cutty Sark' that served as a backdrop for the 2012 Olympic Games. With a knowledgeable guide you'll visit Greenwich Park and its Royal Observatory, and cross the River Thames aboard the Emirates Air Line (cable car). Stop at the O2 for lunch (own expense) before topping off your day at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Enjoy personal attention from your guide on this small-group tour, limited to 20 people.

Meet your personable local guide Saturday morning at Gabriel's Wharf in Central London's South Bank. You'll be fitted with a bicycle and helmet before starting your bike ride with your small group, cycling at a comfortable pace that suits all riding abilities.

Beginning your bike tour along the south side of the River Thames, pass the world-famous Shakespearean Globe Theatre, Tower Bridge and Conrad's Design Museum on your way to the London Docks. Along the way, your guide will point out the great landmarks of London such as the Millennium Bridge, Tate Modern Art Gallery and City Hall.

Follow your guide to the maritime district of Greenwich in southeast London and admire the newly refurbished Cutty Sark, one of the last tea clipper ships to be built. Then, put your bike aside to enter the Royal Observatory -- London's only planetarium -- situated in Greenwich Park. As you explore the 17th-century building, straddle the prime meridian and catch awesome views of London and the River Thames below.

From here, hop back on your bike for a short ride to lunch (own expense) at the O2 -- an entertainment district housing an exhibition space, bars and restaurants in what was formerly known as the Millennium Dome. You'll also stop to purchase snacks and drinks (own expense) throughout your day.

After lunch, your guide will take your small group on the Emirates Air Line -- also known as the Thames cable car -- for a quick trip across the River Thames. Admire the great views from your glass-walled car as you move from the Greenwich Peninsula to the Royal Docks, bridging north and south London in just five minutes.

When you reach the other side, head to the ExCeL London Exhibition Centre, which hosted many sports during the 2012 Olympic Games. Then, ride along the Greenway, a bike path in east London, and learn about the sordid history hidden underneath.

Arriving at Stratford, enjoy the opportunity to explore the stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park -- home of the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics -- before heading back to central London with your guide.
